Introducing Electrostatics

Have you ever iron your clothes? If yes, have you ever heard the crackling sound as you pulled up your clothes from the ironing board after ironing it? What do you think the cause of that sound? Well the crackling sound is due to the statics charges..as you iron your clothes, due to friction you tends to change the neutral charge clothes to either a positively or negatively charged depending on then movement of the electrons..

Yesterday, I had demo to you the magic show (it is not magic actually, but Physics) using the plastics rod and wool cloth.. I rubbed the rod repeatedly several times with that wool and brought closed to a stream of running water from a tap.. You noticed that the running water is attracted to the rod even without touching.

As a discussion later, what are the other everyday applications of statics electricity would you get statics charge? To add an interest, check out this website.. http://www.ehow.com/info_11369565_static-charge-experiments.html
